Scouts Hike & Cycle Challenge
It was a very active weekend for ten of our Wednesday Scouts as they undertook their Scouts Expedition Challenge.
Day one saw them cycling from Warminster, along the Wylye Valley, to see how far they could get in two hours, before turning around for the return journey along the same route. The day started with the Scouts splitting into two groups; group one set off at 1.00pm, followed by the second group at 1.15pm.
Following cycle route 24, both groups made their way along the Wylye Valley, through various villages on route. They stopped for a late lunch in Boyton, then continued on passing under the A303, through Wylye and reaching just short of Great Wishford, before taking a quick break and turning around for the homeward leg.
A long afternoon dodging the showers saw the Scouts return to our HQ in Weymouth Street at roughly 5.30 and 5.45pm respectively. A very warm and welcome movie night and pizza awaited them on completion of day one.
Following a quiet sleepover and a breakfast of hotdogs and pancakes, day two saw the Scouts prepare a packed lunch, then set off in three groups to hike ten miles through the Deverill Valley and Longleat Woods. Stopping off at agreed way-points such as Robin Hoods Bower in Southleigh Woods, Longbridge Deverill Church, Shearwater Lodge, and Redway Gate in Longleat Woods.
All the Scouts took on the challenge head-on and kept smiling, despite the up and down weather!
Thanks go to Russ, Alan, Jody and Adam, as well as to Daniel and Kaia, our two fabulous Young Leaders.
