Full Motley & May Camp 2022
On 14 May 2022, the Warminster Scout Group hosted local legends and cover band The Full Motley at the Lakeside Centre to raise funds for the May camp. An outstanding evening of hits from the 70s to the 00s enabled 65 guests to raise a total of nearly £360 to offset the cost of sending 32 young people and eight adults to the Rockley Buddens Outdoor Activity Centre in the Wareham Forest for five nights.
The camp, based upon a tried and tested blend of self-led and instructor-enabled adventurous activities, ensured that all young people had the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities: archery, rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, bushcraft (firelighting and shelter building), zip-wire, abseiling, climbing, raft-building, standup paddle-boarding, canoeing and problem-solving. These activities helped the Scouts to develop leadership skills, communications skills, independence, teamwork and resilience. It was also an opportunity to come together and celebrate the close friendships that exist at Warminster Scouts.
The week culminated in a relaxing fish and chip supper on the seafront in Swanage… the perfect end to a fantastic week of outdoor adventure! None of the above would have been possible without the generous support of our many local and independent businesses for donating prizes to the raffle, as well as to Kingdown School and Trowbridge Town Council for the use of minibuses. Many thanks indeed to all who supported another memorable week away for our young people.
